Back in November 2007, I promised video of wing-on-a-string training, and now that we are settled into our new house, I was able to find our home movies. The video below is of training Sophie at the ripe old age of 1 ½. I first trained her in our back yard where there were few distractions. With Dakota, the back yard still had too many distractions and I began her training in the garage before taking her to the back yard.
With small puppies, playing a wing-on-a-string game with them is a good way to get their natural hunting instincts going. If you join NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association), depending on the level of membership that you purchase, you can receive a training workbook and video that includes training with a wing on a fishing pole. There are also several videos on YouTube illustrating wing-on-a-string training.
