The Art of Racing in the Rain

By murphydogs

My initial product review is not of a device, tool, or even a how-to book. It is of a novel titled The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. I caught part of an interview with the author on television several months ago and while the title stuck with me, all I remember was that it is about a dog.

The book is written through the eyes of a dog, Enzo. His autobiography. The story is very well crafted and allows you to experience the world from a dog’s perspective. Granted, Enzo understands things that a “real” dog probably cannot, but it only adds to his character.

Having read The Art of Racing in the Rain , I am now beginning to look at my dogs differently. If they were to write their own autobiography, what would they say about their lives? About each other? What would they say about me if they were to put it down on paper?

I’m no literary critic but I know what I like and personally, I believe that The Art of Racing in the Rain has all the qualities to become a classic along with Old Yeller and Where The Red Fern Grows . This novel opened up awareness in me that how-to books did not. I am certain that this will have a similar effect on anyone else who has or has had a dog.

Below is Garth’s comment on my article.

Robert,
Hey, that’s terrific. I appreciate the support and I’m glad you liked Enzo!
Thanks so much, and happy manifesting!
Garth
