Dakota’s flu

By murphydogs

For the past three weeks or so, Dakota has vomited every three or four days. For awhile we attributed it to heat and exercise, drinking the irrigation water they played in, eating too much grass, or swallowing large pieces of rawhide bones. However when she threw up on our bed twice in the middle of the night, we decided it was time to see the vet. Her’s was not the normal “vomit smell” but a very rancid, sour smell that pretty much gagged us.

The vet checked her out, found nothing and decided that she had a touch of the flu that is going around – after all, pets can get many of the same illnesses that people get. He prescribed medication that we give her twice a day and so far, it seems to have done the job. None of our other dogs have come down with it.

We also purchased some flea and tick parasiticide for the summer. He recommended Revolution (selamectin) by Pfizer. We have never used this particular brand before, but the reason he recommended it was because it also included heartworm prevention. In Idaho, there is an increasing incidence of dogs getting heartworm through mosquito bites.
