One of our neighbor’s puppies, Timmy, was hit by a car and killed today. We always half-expected it to happen since they let the puppies run loose, but unfortunately it is because they cannot afford to fence their yard to keep the dogs safe.
Ours was a second home for the puppies, Timmy and Ricky, and we took care of them almost as much as their owners did so it is hard to see Timmy gone. My wife found him just after it happened, she figured that she must have subconsciously heard the hit or the yelp. But she looked out the window and saw him lying in the road, twitching.
The lady who hit Timmy drove off but stopped and came back when she saw my wife and the neighbor kids run out. They were all crying and the lady apologized, but did not offer to help my wife pick up Timmy or carry him off the road. My wife wrapped him in a blanket but it was too late – as she carried him, he went limp and died.
To keep Ricky from going out into the road and investigating Timmy’s blood pool, I poured hydrogen peroxide on it and then washed it off the road.
