Lilly came down with a case of Parvo and spent the past couple of days at the vet. My wife notified the Humane Society as soon as she discovered that Lilly had it, so hopefully her litter mates were all treated; it was caught early enough that it never progressed beyond a mild case. The rest of our guys are more receptive of Lilly since her return and Elvis, our Goodwill Ambassador, tries playing with her but she hasn’t quite fit in with our little pack yet.

She sure is cute! You are lucky you caught the parvo early. So scary for a puppy. So what are the early signs that you saw?

We’ve had experience with Parvo before, both ours and neighbor’s dogs. The first sign was that Lilly was lethargic, which in and of itself doesn’t mean much especially when you consider the stress a puppy goes through when introduced to a new home. The real sign came when she began throwing up. In addition, none of our other dogs wanted anything to do with her – they avoided her and weren’t even the bit curious about sniffing her, so we believe that they knew she was sick.
She had a good appetite and drank water, but when it hit and she began throwing up, add that to her low energy, and the fact that our dogs avoided her, we knew something was wrong. She had the same symptoms of what we experienced in the past, and we weren’t taking any chances.
