Sorry to hear about your dad. I'll post your question on another blog, "My Hunting Buddies". I believe that some of their members are from Texas and may have an answer for you.

I am trying to find out what small bird my father would have hunted during October in 1955-1959. He would try to get what I remember as partridge for my birthday dinner on the 16th. I always thought they were Partridge but my sister thinks they were quail. Would there be any way of finding out the hunting season then? We lived in Three Lakes which is up near Rhinelander. Does anyone have an idea how I can find out this information? it would mean a lot to me since we lost Daddy this year. Thanks!

Dakota, our hyperactive Chocolate Lab, has throat damage from a collar - actually, we believe that it was because her former owner used a steel cable for both collar and leash. The Illusion collar works well on her, and I would also suggest getting her a backpack and putting a couple of small bottles of water in it (ie. 16 oz. or 1/4 litre) - this gives your dog a job to do and increases the amount of exercise during the walk.
Make sure that your dog is physically capable of carrying any weight, and you're not putting too much weight on it, however.
I've found that a waistcord also works very well. I learned how to train with a waistcord from the seminar that I took from Mike Gould earlier this year, who developed the waistcord method of training. The nice thing about the waistcord is that when the dog pulls, it puts tension on their waist, which triggers their natural tendancy to slow down. Implemented properly, very little pressure is put on their necks.

It's good to see a positive review of the Illusion collar, having also just seen a very negative web site.
My black labrador is now 20 months and walking to heel is still a work in progress despite training classes and walks. I do try very hard and have still not quite mastered the calm assertive way, but constantly feel that I am failing as a dog owner as I cannot control her properly on the lead, especially when we meet other dogs. I have tried two makes of halti, both of which she struggles to get off her face, also two different harnesses and many types of collar and lead. I'm running out of options. The Illusion collar is now next on my list to try!

Thanks for your comment and sorry it's taken so long to reply. We've been pretty swamped with things here and I haven't been checking my email and comments like I should. The more I do this and actually work with other trainers, the more I find out how much more there is to know.
